What comes to mind when you hear the word “prayer”? Perhaps you reminisce on past answered requests. Maybe you recall a list of needs and desires, or you may recite verses you’ve memorized about prayer. But if you’ve given any level of serious commitment to prayer, you’ve most likely found yourself confused, concerned, or even frustrated in certain seasons of your prayer life as you’ve experienced the very real tension between our desires and God’s will.

It’s easy to make personal growth more about simple information rather than true spiritual formation. Ancillary details and personal preference have distracted many from the priority of people and authentic discipleship. How can we learn to see all people – even those who look or think differently from us – in the way that God sees them? Where do you find it most difficult to show love to others, and why? Is it someone with different political views? A difficult family member? A contentious co-worker? Let’s consider these questions as we explore what it means to be Unashamed as People of the Gospel.

“By whom we have received grace.” Grace is foundational to our understanding of the gospel. It is not something we earn by being good enough, spiritual enough, or disciplined enough. It is something God freely gives. The gospel begins with God moving toward us, not us climbing our way toward Him. Jesus came down, lived, died, and rose again because of His great love for us.
